There’s nothing I love more than a rainy day, which is convenient because April in North Carolina is nothing but rain. So grab all the blankets in your house (and I mean every single one), snuggle under your blanket pile, and pick up one of these books for the ultimate atmospheric and slightly moody reading experience.
Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake
This moody fantasy follows three sisters who compete to be the queen of their land. The atmosphere is so rich and unique; if you love a good fantasy with plenty of subplots mixed in, this book is for you.

The Disappearances by Emily Bain Murphy
Speaking of atmospheric books, The Disappearances has a lovely rainy-day aesthetic. The sleepy 1940s town in this book is so charming and the perfect escape when the weather gets stormy.

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera
If you’re in the feels and are down to have a good cry, I highly recommend this book. Or if you’re not in the feels and want to read a story about young love, this book is great for you too! Moral of the story: read this book.
To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
Rainy days make me was to stay in and hang out with my family, and this book perfectly captures that aesthetic. The relationship between Lara Jean and her sisters (and the swoon-worthy romance) is so heart-warming and sure to cheer you up.
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
This post may or may not be an undercover ploy to get you all to read Eleanor & Park because this book is SO GOOD. Please just read it; you’ll thank me later.

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon
The sweet romance and intriguing family dynamics in Everything, Everything are the perfect addition to your rainy day routine. This book is also a quick read; I finished in a day because it was so addicting.
The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
This adult fiction favorite is the ideal rainy day read: there’s romance, there’s a little bit of time-traveling whimsy, and did I mention that there’s romance?
It’s Kind of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini
Another one of my absolute favorites. When it rains, I love a good tearjerker that makes you want to go and hug every single person you’ve ever spoken to, and this book definitely checks those boxes.
The Opposite of Loneliness by Marina Keegan
Personally, I think this book should be read by everyone ever in any weather condition, but it also makes the ideal rainy day read. Any of the nine stories and nine essays are the perfect length for a quick read before a cozy nap.
How to be Parisian Wherever You Are: Love, Style, and Bad Habits
If you like a bit of humor to counteract a gloomy, cloudy day, I highly recommend How to be Parisian Wherever You Are. I listened to the audiobook, which is only 4ish hours, and was chuckling the entire time.

Where’d You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple
On a day when you’re stuck inside, Where’d You Go, Bernadette is the perfect book to transport you to faraway lands with wonderfully weird characters. From Seattle to Alaska, this book had me in stitches from cover to cover. (PS: it was also one of my favorite books from 2018.)
