these books pair nicely with sunshine and sweet wine | my 2020 vacation tbr

There’s quite literally nothing better than a relaxing (and socially-distanced) week of rest, relaxation, and, most importantly, lots and lots of reading.

Vacation TBRs are something I take very seriously because a great book is my favorite way to spend my vacay time! Here’s what I’m taking with me this week:

BEACH READ BY EMILY HENRY

I splurged and bought a new copy of Beach Read just for this week because I couldn’t wait any longer to get my hands on this story. A enemies(ish)-to-lovers romance that features writing and is set at the beach? I’m sold. Planning to devour this book with a glass of wine in one hand and a bottle of sunscreen in the other.

A SONG BELOW WATER BY BETHANY C. MORROW

Thanks to NetGalley, I’m reading an ARC of A Song Below Water. This beautiful and poignant novel is about two sisters who navigate their identities in a magical-realist version of the US. In this story, Black Lives Matter meets mythology as a young Black woman is accused of being a siren. I’m a few chapters into this book right now and love every minute.

THE BATTLE OF THE LABYRINTH BY RICK RIORDAN

As I work my way through the Percy Jackson books, I’m going to pick up The Battle of the Labyrinth, the fourth book in the series, and continue my reread this week. I love revisiting my middle school favorites and can’t wait to see this series adapted for the screen!

ALEX & ELIZA BY MELISSA DE LA CRUZ

Since Hamilton was released on Disney+, it’s safe to say we’ve all revived our 2016 Hamilton obsession. I think Alex & Eliza is going to be the perfect way to satisfy (lol) my history craving while also enjoying a sweet love story. I’ve got all three ebooks from this series lined up and ready to go on my Kindle, so I’m definitely all set for the week.

What are your favorite kinds of books to read on vacation? Do you have any safe travel plans coming up? If not, how are you beating the heat this summer?

  1. My favourite beach reads / summer reads are either romcom or middle-grade. I like things that are light-hearted to capture the beach vibe. Percy Jackson would be the perfect thing to take to the beach! (Especially since it would also be a re-read for me, and I adore re-reads. Nostalgia and summer vacay, ah, so sweet.)
