week of mini reviews | day 4: heartwarming audiobooks

Today, we’re continuing my week of mini reviews (in an attempt to catch up with all the books I haven’t reviewed this year lol) with some audiobooks that I listened to and loved! Here’s what I recommend…

HUNGRY HEARTS BY VARIOUS AUTHORS

Hungry Hearts tells thirteen interlocking stories about a famed row of restaurants called Hungry Hearts Row. I loved the different cameos in each story that referenced other moments in the collection, and the diversity of characters and genres was intriguing and added to the multicultural setting. I listened to the audiobook and it was beautifully performed.

Rating: 4/5 stars

SISTER’S FATE BY JESSICA SPOTSWOOD

Soooo this book is a one-of-these-things-is-not-like-the-other scenario. Not only did I read the physical copy of this book, it’s also not particularly heartwarming. In the final book of the Cahill Witch Chronicles series, Sister’s Fate ties up the series and pretty much functions like every other final book in a trilogy about tearing down a corrupt government. Like Star Cursed, which I wrote about yesterday, this book didn’t stick with me for any particular reason. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t awful.

Rating: 3/5 stars

THE WEDDING DATE BY JASMINE GUILLORY

I’ve read so much hype about this book and its spinoffs, and I’m glad to report that the hype is worth it. I loved The Wedding Date for its adorable characters paired with a more serious discussion of what it’s like to date someone of a different race, and how to approach that situation with tact and empathy. I’m excited to continue with the rest of this series!

Rating: 4/5 stars

That’s all for today! Check back tomorrow for the final round of mini reviews.
