travel book recommendations based on your ideal destination

Today, I’m combining my two greatest loves to bring you travel book recommendations based on your ideal destination.

Since travel is restricted right now, I’m totally in the mood for an international adventure to sweep me away. Add in delicious food, a swoony romance, and an unlikely adventure, and I’m IN.

Here are the best “travel” spots on my shelf…

France…

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins. This fun, flirty novel takes place at a boarding school set in the City of Lights. Anna, the protagonist, finds adventure and romance. The city of Paris is as much a character as Anna and her friends, making this the perfect pick if you need un petit voyage.

Antarctica…

Where’d You Go, Bernadette? by Maria Semple. For the truly adventurous, I recommend this book about Bee’s quest to find her mother, who mysteriously goes missing. I love the epistolary (composed of documents) style of this novel, and laughed my way through the witty story.

Portugal…

Caraval by Stephanie Garber. In this enchanting novel, Scarlett enters a dangerous traveling carnival where nothing is as real as it seems. Caraval has a lovely Mediterranean aesthetic and reminded me so much of my time in Portugal. In addition, the language is so vibrant that it’ll transport you right into the story.

Scotland…

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. This might seem obvious since Outlander is a staple. However, I need to talk about this book. I’m listening Outlander on audio right now and loving it. I’m totally going to run off to Scotland and find myself a headstrong Scottish warrior, ok?

Greece…

Circe by Madeline Miller. Circe hones her gift for the occult, meets several famous figures, and battles a formidable titan. This mythology-inspired novel comes highly-recommended and will definitely satisfy your travel bug.

Somewhere tropical…

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren. Rivals Olive and Ethan are forced to go on a Hawaiian honeymoon together. The beautiful descriptions and sunshiny atmosphere will make you feel like you’re on a vacation.
