2020 holiday gift guide for booklovers | small business edition

I’m so excited to share my small business holiday gift guide today!  This list includes tons of companies that are perfect for the booklovers in your life (or to just treat yourself).

Shopping small is very close to my heart because I’m the daughter of a small business owner, and want to help small businesses grow and thrive this holiday season.  So many small businesses have had to shut down permanently because of the economic recession caused by COVID-19, and we as consumers have an awesome opportunity to help these companies survive the holiday season.

Shopping small is very doable even on a tighter budget!  I’ve tried to be conscious of how often I’m resorting to Amazon and other big retailers this holiday season.  It is nice to order a gift and have it on your doorstep the next day, but shopping small is totally possible with a little planning and budgeting.

Here’s my 2020 small business gift guide for book lovers!

Bookshop.org
I love this website for buying books because a portion of your purchase benefits a bookstore of your choice.  If you’re looking for a store to benefit, my local favorite is Main Street Books in Davidson, NC.

Libro.fm
Bookshop.org also has an audiobook subscription service that supports local bookstores!  It’s $15 a month (the same price as Audible) and you can send books or a subscription as a gift.

Inkwell Threads
If you’re looking for book-themed merch, I can’t recommend Inkwell Threads enough.  Their designs are adorable and come in a variety of products.

Carrot Top Paper Shop
This Etsy shop sells gorgeous book-themed paper goods like prints, bookmarks, and stationary.  The pieces feature famous literary heroines and are totally customizable.  They’re all so darling and beautiful!

The Foxed Box
This subscription service will send your reader personalized books every month or quarter; you pick the timeline and the frequency.  They also keep the amount of books sent out pretty small so they can make sure that each order is entirely personalized.  Be sure to check out their merch too.

Bookshelf Tees
Snag a book-themed t-shirt for the reader in your life!  I love the bold, simple designs on these shirts.  They’re understated enough to wear everyday and so fun to browse.

Ideal Bookshelf
Commission a custom artwork of your reader’s favorite books from incredible artist Jane Mount.  She’s also got plenty of pre-made totes, prints, and fun little trinkets available on her site.

Whiled
Gift your reader with a fun, unique puzzle from Whiled for when they’re in a book slump.  I love the bold, colorful designs.

The New Yorker
For the academic, gift a subscription to The New Yorker.  It’s without a doubt one of my favorite magazines.

What small businesses would you add to the list?  Where have you shopped this year?
